The boys enjoyed a trip to our Nation’s Capitol, Washington DC! Fun was had by all and much learning and advancement was completed. Check out our slideshow below!
Bike Trip October-2023
Troop 121 scouts did a 17 mile bike trip in October. They did a great job learning the skills of safe cycling. Member in attendance got a nice rest stop at an ice cream shop before heading back to the drop-off point.
Philmont 2023
A group of scouts were fortunate enough to attend Philmont Ranch this summer. Here are some pictures. These boys did a great job navigating and hiking. It is an amazing experience and we are trying to attend again with additional and different scouts in 2025.
Yawgoog 2023
The Scouts had a great time at Yawgoog this year. Although the week was cut a bit short they were able to complete a ton of merit badges. 106 merit badges and over 200 segments!! The scouts also won Troop of the Week! They were loud and singing and chanting which made the camp feel like it should. We are extremely proud of these boys. See some of our fun pics below!
Whitewater Rafting 2023
Our scouts attended a whitewater rafting trip at Crabapple in Massachusetts. The boys had a great time and all of them earned the BSA Whitewater Award. They worked hard and learned how to be a team while navigating the rapids. A great experience for all!
Cemetery/Aquapaug Cleanup 2023
On May 13th 2023 Some of the scout’s planned and cleaned up a historical cemetery and trails at Camp Aquapaug. Our boys stay busy all year doing smaller community service projects and have gotten pretty good at it. They enjoy their service and show adherence with the scout oath and law. Service to the community is an important aspect of scouting and Troop 121 does it well!
Welding Merit Badge
This past Wednesday a group of boys completed the welding merit badge requirements. They learned how to grind and weld and all about the safety of these actions. They joined metal pieces together and also welded our Troop 121 name into a piece of steel. Our very own scout Jared taught his mates how to do this after he advertised the merit badge to them and told them how fun it was. With the leader’s looking on Jared went through every step with his fellow scouts. Great Job Jared!
Whitewater Rafting 2023
In June our scouts have an opportunity to attend our whitewater rafting trip. They will learn concepts of paddling and safety on the water. The boys always have a great time on the river. 7 miles of river with class I-III rapids makes this experience amazing. Crab Apple Whitewater at Fife brook is our destination.
Backpacking 2023
This year a group of boys are going to attend the high adventure camp at Philmont. This is an intense program for boys over the age of 14. They learn to backpack and hike and exist in the wild. Philmont requires scouts to pack and carry their gear instilling principles of leave no trace and the outdoor code and of course the scout oath and law. Our boys have been training and this year have completed a couple of backpacking trips. They will do another in April 2023 so they can pack their gear and get a feel for what the adventure will be like. As a bonus the younger scouts will also be able to train with them and learn what it is like for when they come of age.
Camp Yawgoog 2023 Upcoming
Each year the boys have the opportunity to attend a week long overnight camp at Camp Yawgoog. This year is no different. We will have around 20 scouts attend and there they are able to unplug from technology and learn life-long skills. They get to connect with friends from their community and other communities and enlist teamwork. With friendly competitions, merit badge schedules, troop events and themes Camp Yawgoog provides them an experience that is hard to beat. Our scouts spend some of their year fundraising and applying for grants to be able to experience camp. We look forward to another great year and don’t forget to come back and see our regular updates!
